What it is
A weekday comedy news email with a microsite, a games hub and an editor desk. Each evening an AI with web search finds candidate stories and keeps the best five per category. An editor picks the stories, the AI writes them up and fact checks them, the editor edits and approves, and a cron sends at the hour the editors set. Nothing gets written before a person picks, and nothing goes out before a person approves.
My part
I work on it as a backend developer. Keeping the service up and fixing downtime when it happens. Managing the data, from the subscriber list to the issue archive. Setting up logins and credentials for the editors. Connecting beehiiv, including the signed subscriber webhook and the send checks that hold an issue that's empty or unapproved, and getting each issue out on schedule.
I also built the daily mini crossword: the grid generator, the Claude written clues, the desk dashboard, the archive page and the mobile keyboard.

The newsletter goes out every weekday to over 900 subscribers. The product belongs to BlueSteel, so the source is private.
